Quality Garage Door Weather Seals
Almost every overhead garage door has a small flexible strip along its bottom edge. This strip presses against the ground to create a tight seal when the door is closed. Some garage doors have similar strips along their edges and tops. These, too, act as weather seals. Most of the time, these weather seals last about 10 years before you need to replace them. Garage door seals typically come in both rubber and PVC varieties. Of the two, PVC seals last longer and withstand more wear and tear.
Garage door weather seals wear out over time due to tough weather conditions like very hot or cold temperatures, rain, and sunlight. These conditions can cause the rubber or vinyl to crack, bend, or become hard. Dirt, trash, and bugs also damage the seals. Opening and closing the garage door frequently generates friction, which weakens the seal. Poor installation or cheap materials can also accelerate wear.
It isn’t uncommon for the bottom weather seal of a garage door to wear out first. That’s because it bears some of the door’s weight every time you close it. The good news is that our garage door experts will replace your door’s weather seal when necessary. The replacement process will vary slightly depending on the type of door you have. Some garage doors feature lower seals that slide into a retaining track permanently affixed to the door. Others feature seals that nail into the door itself. Replacing those is slightly more complicated, but our experts will handle the job for you.
