Crawfordsville Garage Door Repair Professionals
Most residential garage doors will have a life span of anywhere between 15 and 30 years. Over that length of time, your garage door can face various issues that will require it to undergo repair service. Many components, such as a garage door opener, have a shorter life span of around 10 to 15 years. To help extend the longevity of all your garage door components, it’s best to invest in an annual garage door maintenance service.
One of the more frequent issues that people have with their garage door is that it keeps reopening instead of fully shutting. In most cases, this is going to be the result of a safety mechanism known as the photosensor. There are two sensors that sit close to the floor on the inside of your garage. The job of these sensors is to detect if there’s anything between them. If something is, the sensors will trigger the door to reopen to prevent harm to whatever is in the door’s path.
Unfortunately, when these sensors malfunction, they can falsely read that something is in the door’s path. One of our garage door technicians can assess the state of the sensors to determine where the malfunction is occurring. In some cases, the sensors may be out of alignment or a photo eye may be dirty. In other cases, the entire sensor may be faulty and need to undergo replacement service.
One particularly alarming issue that you may experience is your garage door quickly dropping back down to the ground. This is usually the result of a broken torsion spring. If your garage door doesn’t get regular care, the springs will eventually wear out and break. This can be very dangerous, which is why regular maintenance is necessary for any properly functioning garage door.
